The Smart Rural Community (SRC) Collaboration Challenge, run by NTCA, is an annual opportunity for rural broadband providers to obtain grants to deploy broadband-enabled solutions within their community. It encourages collaboration among community leaders to provide the best technologies. Allocated through fund-matching obligations in the program, it requires local communications providers to recruit the participation of other local leaders. It’s an exciting, relatively new part of our SRC program and not only tells the story of innovation and collaboration in rural communities, but now takes it the next step to support the projects themselves!
Each year grants are awarded to NTCA telco members to support the expansion of broadband services to the rural community, growth of telehealth, technology education and much more. We are now accepting applications through December 31, 2017. Learn more by reviewing the application guidelines.
One of my favorite examples of an SRC grant was for the amazing work that PRTC has done in Kentucky creating the first Virtual Living Room projects in the country as they used their gig service to their local library to offer health care services to our returning veterans. I am so proud and delighted of the work that Keith Gabbard and his team have done and now that PRTC has lead the way, am hoping for more NTCA members to figure out how to follow that lead.
